6th Annual Trenton Short Course Championship is a Success!

On Tuesday, April 21st, the National Junior Tennis and Learning of Trenton held its 6th Annual Trenton Short Court Tennis Championship at the Junior Champion Tennis Center at Cadwalader Park. More than 250 students played in the Championship, the culminating event of the NJTL of Trenton's Physical Education Program, which brings tennis into elementary and middle schools in the Trenton and Hamilton area. As part of the PE Program NJTL of Trenton staff provide training to teachers prior to the start of the program and lessons to students during their physical education period. The program allows the NJTL of Trenton to expose children to tennis who may not have otherwise had the opportunity to play or learn about the sport. Many students go on to participate in other NJTL of Trenton programs, growing their tennis skills and learning life lessons through the sport helping to instill the NJTL of Trenton's core values; Healthy lifestyles through regular exercise, good nutrition and self-respect; Academic excellence and educational opportunities; Acceptance of other backgrounds and cultures; and Responsible behavior at home, in the classroom and on the tennis court and in the broader community.

The Annual Trenton Short Court Tennis Championship allows students from the various school districts to come together and show off their tennis skills while representing their schools in a round robin match-play format.  Jefferson Elementary won the Elementary Divsion Final against Foundation Academy.  Dunn topped Grice for the second consecutive year to win the Middle School Division.
